How Philly Moves, the Philadelphia Mural Arts’ Program’s bravura gateway project on the facade of the Philadelphia International Airport garage, has won national recognition as a project listed in the Public Art Network’s Year in Review.

The Year in Review is a curated review of the best projects of the year,
from hundreds that are submitted annually by artists and arts organizations around the country.

As consultant to the Mural Arts Program, I led Mural Arts on the initial conceptualization and approval of the project, as well as the artist selection. The project was managed by Judy Hellman; the lead artist was photographer J.J. Tiziou, and the lead muralist was Jon Laidecker.

The project celebrates, as Tiziou explains, the beauty inherent in every person’s style of dancing and movement.

The project involved dozens of Mural Arts and airport staff, and thousands of Philadelphians who took part in photo shoots and paint days.

In addition to the mural, Philadelphia International Airport has organized a permanent exhibition about the project in the baggage area of Terminal B.
